DSC Squash League beginning Monday 19 January 2026
Dear Squash Member,
In the internal squash league that has just finished the top man was David Jones with 17 points in the Premier Box, followed by George Piggot with 12 points and Michael Royce with 10.
The top lady was Alice Greswold who came first in box 7.

If you are a participant please note that a new squash league is now on the online booking website.
After withdrawals, by the end of the league there were 189 players in the boxes. The nearby Grafton club’s courts are currently closed for maintenance so we have had an influx of new members. This has resulted in 34 peoplejoining the league, compensated for by 20 dropping out. The new league has a total of 203 participants spread over 34 boxes, 33 boxes of 6 players and 1 of 5.
The next league will last 8 weeks until Sunday 15th March 2026. Please try to get your matches played in good time as the expanded league will cause more pressure on court bookings, especially at peak times. Also bear in mind that the winter handicap tournament has also just started.
Because of the higher than usual numbers coming in and dropping out, producing this new league has been a complicated and time consuming task. Many of the players coming in are placed in the higher boxes, particularly in a bulge between boxes 7 and 12, which means that, for example, the old box 25 is now effectively box 27. I have tried to make sure that players who came towards the top of their box have been rewarded with a higher place than their peers who were placed lower. However, most players will be a little confused when they find themselves in a lower box than they expected. On the positive side, many boxes will be welcoming new players joining us from Grafton!

As you should know by now the league is only online. I will eventually put a summary up at the club but all results must be added to the online league. The points system for results is detailed there.
All contact details can be found on the online booking site. Click on a name and then the email address and a blank email is opened for you to arrange games. Remember to put in your opponent's name when you book a court and they will get a reminder on the day, both to turn up and to pay you towards the court fee.
Please note that all participants in the Squash League are required to make both their email and mobile phone number available to other members on the online booking site. Please don't opt out of emails!
It has been decided that the default scoring system going forward will be PAR (point a rally) to 11 with 2 clear points needed to win after 10-10 deuce. This is so that more matches can be played to completion rather than running out of time; having to re-play matches would only increase the pressure on court bookings.
By mutual agreement, players can still opt to play HiHo (hand-in, hand-out) to 9 with the player who lost game point opting for first to either 9 or 10 at 8-8 deuce. However, we are trying to encourage the move to PAR as it is the system juniors are familiar with as more young players enter the game.

I’m not sure that Graham’s remedy of a glass of red or a soothing cup if tea is up to the task after this mammoth league production, a couple of fingers of Laphroaig might do the trick!
