DSC Squash League beginning Monday 16th March 2026

Dear Squash Member,

In the internal squash league that has just finished the top man was Luc Elsby with 14 points in the Premier Box, followed by Harry Prescot with 10.

The top lady was Alice Greswold in box 7 who sadly couldn’t complete all of her matches due to injury; here’s wishing her a swift recovery.

Congratulations!

If you are a participant please note that a new squash league is now on the online booking website.

After withdrawals, by the end of the league there were 196 players in the boxes. More members have joined the club, some of whom have been keen to join the league. Others have withdrawn through injury or time pressures. This has resulted in 20 people joining the league, compensated for by 13 dropping out. We have also excluded five members who played no matches and didn’t communicate a desire to stay in. The new league has a total of 198 participants spread over 33 boxes of 6 players.

The next league will last 8 weeks until Sunday 10th May 2026. Please try to get your matches played in good time because if everyone played all of their matches that would be 495 court bookings to accommodate.

This has again been a complicated and time consuming production with withdrawals tending to be concentrated in one or two area, e.g. boxes 24 & 25 ended up with only 7 players between them. There may again be some confusion when you see an unexpected promotion of three boxes to fill gaps left in boxes above!

As ever, please respond promptly to any email from an opponent trying to arrange a game. As a help to organising your games, thanks go to Steven Pavett who has set up a WhatsApp thingy. The following link should allow you to find a WhatsApp Group for whichever box you are in:-

Please leave and join groups as needed at the start of each league. Any problems Steven is your man, steven.pavett@gmail.com.

As you should know by now, the league is only online. I will eventually put a summary up at the club but all results must be added to the online league. The points system for results is detailed there.

All contact details can be found on the online booking site. Click on a name and then the email address and a blank email is opened for you to arrange games. Remember to put in your opponent's name when you book a court and they will get a reminder on the day, both to turn up and to pay you towards the court fee.

Please note that all participants in the Squash League are required to make both their email and mobile phone number available to other members on the online booking site. Please don't opt out of emails!

The default scoring system going forward will be PAR (point a rally) to 11 with 2 clear points needed to win after 10-10 deuce. This is so that more matches can be played to completion rather than running out of time; having to re-play matches would only increase the pressure on court bookings.

By mutual agreement, players can still opt to play HiHo (hand-in, hand-out) to 9 with the player who lost game point opting for first to either 9 or 10 at 8-8 deuce. However, we are trying to encourage the move to PAR as it is the system juniors are familiar with as more young players enter the game.

Good luck to you all!

I’ can’t compete with Graham’s extensive knowledge of fine wine but I may well partake of a glass of red from a box as a reward for completing this production!

Kind regards,

John
